I went to see the Dr. over at UAMS today. I had what seemed like 20 different xrays of my knees. When finally got to see the Dr. he poked and prodded on the bad knee, told me how much pain I was in (like I needed anyone to tell me that!) and said that he felt like, "at this point surgery isn't an option, you've had plenty for now". I'm not a candidate for the tibal ostomy as I have too much damage to the knee cap.
Dr. VanderSchilden wrote down a regimn of meds that he wants me on. He will also recommend to Dr. Crowell that I have Synvisc injected into the knee. Dr. V said that some people find it a "Godsend" others find that it doesn't help at all. He also checked my quad and was not happy with the atrophy, but I can't use the knee much so it doesn't get as much use as it used to. The rest was basically sympathy that I will have to live with this pain until I'm old enough for a replacement.
I don't know whether to sit down and just be depressed or sit down and cry. I was so hoping for some sort of resolution. I have so much pain that I can hardly sleep, it's so constant that I can hardly think straight. Just how old is "old enough"? Think I'll just go have a couple dozen cookies and a 1/2 gallon of milk.
