On May 3rd @ 10:00 am, at the First Baptist Church in Shannon Hills there will be a group hug. FBC is located @ 10701 Shannon Hills Drive in Shannon Hills
What is a "group hug"? It is a group that gets together to make things for our troops deployed. In this case we will be making neck coolers and helmet coolers for Nick's platoon. If you have a sewing machine and can sew a straight stitch please join us. The temps. in the middle east are already hitting 115 degrees! We don't want anyone having a heat stroke and these items will help keep them cool. If you can't sew, come anyway as we have plenty of other things that will need to be done!
I will be providing some fabric, precut, as well as the water crystals. If you have a good quality, darker colored fabric that is 100% cotton please bring it. It MUST be 100% cotton due to the fire danger, we don't want them getting burned from a synthetic fiber. The fabric needs to be of good quality otherwise when the coolers are hydrated the crystals will ooze out of the fabric and that won't do the soldiers any good in fact could endanger them due to being distracted. There can be no white, light or bright colors. This will also endanger the soldiers as it could draw the attention of the enemy. If you have questions please call me and ask, we'll figure it out. If you have fabric that you are asking yourself what in the world did I buy this for bring it! If it's too light, over dye it!
If you want to attend and don't know how to sew, that's okay! There will be other things to do. We need some to cut, to turn the coolers, to iron, and bag stuffers. Also, if you can't attend but want to help, donations would be wonderful! The materials for this isn't free or cheap! (I don't like to beg but we are wanting to help out as many of Nick's platoon as possible, for their safety)
I hope to see you there!
